Second International Summer School in Peace and Conflict Studies – Cyprus


The University of Cyprus, in collaboration with the European Consortium for Political Research and the International Association of Peace and Conflict Studies is organizing the Second International Summer School (ISS) in Peace and Conflict Studies between the 19th to the 31st July 2015, at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, University of Cyprus.  The 2015 ISS focus theme will be “State Fragmentation, Regional Crises and War Endings”.

1) “The Demidov Express”

Within the framework of The Global Education Initiative BRICS Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and the Higher School of Economics (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) invite foreign students to join the Summer program “The Demidov Express”.

“The Demidov Express” is the first Summer School held in two Russia’s leading universities: Ural Federal University and the Higher School of Economics.

The three-week Summer School – from July, 6 until July, 26, 2015 – provides its participants with a unique combination of following opportunities:

exploring the political, economic, social, cultural and civilizational and other features of the Member States of the BRICS, analyzing their interaction in a globalizing world;

improving the level of Russian language (different levels from A1 to C1);

visiting two significant cities of Russia: Ekaterinburg and Saint-Petersburg (10 days in each spot);

having unforgettable guided train-journey on the board of the “Demidov Express” – train;

joining cultural program with the huge variety of extracurricular activities.

2) “The Russian Studies in Real Russia: Talents for Talents”

The three-week language school “The Russian Studies in Real Russia: Talents for Talents” provided by Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg, Russia) – July, 26- August, 14– makes the emphasis on the individual basic human, academic and business needs of the learners, the opportunities to make a quick language progress and get an unforgettable cultural experience.

  1. The Intensive Course of Russian as a Foreign Language

Our goal is to advance the communicational skills of every student – even if he/she only starts to learn Russian. For this reason the new program includes: more hours on Russian as a foreign language (60 hours per three weeks); the Outdoor practical seminars; opportunities to have extra classes with leading UrFU tutors; individual learning materials.

  1. Workshops and Practical Seminars

During the first days of the summer program students are free to choose one of the specialized Workshops within following fields of Russian Studies: 1)Business and Economics of Russia; 2)Russian Culture and Literature; 3)History and Sociology of Russia; 4)Russian Media and Politics – and have practical seminars with the leading professors of UrFU; get an access to a quality theoretical discourse and modern actual learning materials; solve several real-time problematic situations; achieve a deep understanding of social and cultural context of Russia.

  1. Cultural program and extracurricular activities

The course will be presented in the local social and cultural context. It gives a chance to discuss some topics on the spot, to visit the best places of interest both in Ekaterinburg and the Ural region, practicing Russian language in academic and informal environment.

The evenings of Russian national cuisine, open-minded volunteers, extra-activities (visiting Russian banya, celebrating the Day of Ekaterinburg, cinema, shopping, etc) – as informal part of the both programs – make the atmosphere of staying in Russia friendly and amusing.

What is a student-led internship?

Student-led internships are placements with non-academic partners where the student sets up an internship opportunity with a host and applies to CASAW for funding. Interns will serve as liaisons between UK academia and academic and non-academic institutions in the region. The scheme aims to:

  • Give postgraduate students who specialise in the Arab world the opportunity to shape their work in relation to strategic language-based research skills and expertise.
  • Help host organisations to build capacity in areas of strategic need through the application of specialist language-based research skills and expertise.
  • Aid professional and career development by facilitating the acquisition of transferable skills.
  • Increase opportunities for dissemination of research through user engagement and of the various skills and techniques required to make this effective and mutually beneficial.
  • Increase opportunities for the exchange of skills and perspectives and the sharing of resources between academic and non-academic environments.
  • Demonstrate the strategic importance and policy relevance of deep knowledge in the humanities and modern languages, and to enhance the impact of this research at a local, national and international level.

Contexte :

Le domaine des humanités numériques est en plein essor depuis quelques années mais présente encore la faiblesse d’être peu outillé pour la production de sources textuelles (transcription de manuscrits, enrichissement scientifique, annotation critique, intellectuelle, etc.). L’université Stendhal s’est engagée depuis plusieurs années dans un certain nombre de projets de valorisation de patrimoines littéraires et développe des collaborations avec différentes universités aussi bien au niveau national qu’au niveau international. Le projet de stage s’inscrit dans une collaboration entre l’université Stendhal – Grenoble Alpes et l’Université Paris VII.

 

Description du stage :

Le stage se décompose en deux parties :

1/ Développement d’un environnement web de production WYSIWYM (what you see is what you mean). Etant données une grammaire (DTD) et une feuille de style (CSS), il s’agit de donner un environnement de production de documents XML qui à la fois accompagne et contraigne le producteur : accompagner avec une mise en forme qui libère l’utilisateur des contraintes techniques et contraindre en pilotant la production par le biais de la grammaire.

2/ Développement d’une plateforme encapsulant l’environnement de production. L’objectif de l’environnement de production est de fournir à des équipes de recherche comme des équipes pédagogique, de travailler de manière collaborative autour de projets distincts. La plateforme devra donc permettre de gérer des utilisateurs (avec des rôles), des projets, des fonds.

Il ne s’agit pas de développer ces deux éléments ex nihilo, mais éventuellement de s’appuyer sur des outillages existants pour les adapter aux besoins et à la littératie numériques des utilisateurs finaux.

CALL FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROPOSALS

This call is aimed at budding researchers with a creative and open mind towards the challenges of applied research. We offer a unique learning opportunity in a multidisciplinary research project on the isle of Gozo, Malta. Expeditions and the University of Leuven hand out eight scholarships that cover part or all of the tuition fee for the 2015 Malta Summer School. Scholarships are granted on a competitive basis, based on a research proposal.

Selection is NOT based on academic merit, originality or complexity. We aim for enthusiasm, dedication and creativity. In the past years even students who were not enrolled in an anthropology program got scholarships for the project.


Selection Procedure

Candidates are invited to propose two or more creative research concepts that can be performed during the summer school. So the research topic has to relate to something on which you can do fieldwork on Malta, and preferably Gozo.
From these proposals, the academic board of Expeditions will select 15 different candidates to work out a more detailed research plan within a deadline of two months (February/March). The three best research proposals will be granted a full scholarship. The next five runners-up will be granted a scholarship of 1,700.00? (about 60% of the total tuition) which will be deducted from their tuition fee.

In the first stage:
· All submissions will compete equally. You are allowed to send in as much research ideas as you like.
· Concepts should be rudimentarily explained.
· Applicants are asked to focus on creativity and an initial-stage argumentation on why the research is valuable.

After initial acceptance:
· Applicants will develop further one selected proposal under assistance of our tutors (via e-mail or skype).
· Elaboration on feasibility, methodology and research layouts should fleshed out in this stage only
· Final research proposals to be submitted within two months after initial acceptance

· Send us 2 or more research concepts (but at least two!).
· 150-250 words per research concept.
· Submitting can only be done through the form on our website.
· The deadline for submissions is January 25th, 2015.

Please note that the number of students accepted in the program is limited. Scholarships will be granted only after the completion of the selection procedure, while registration is open to non-scholarship participants. In case you wish to join the project even if you don’t get the scholarship, we advise to register through the regular procedure as early as possible since non-scholarship slots are usually filled by the end of December.

Master or PhD at the Beijing Institute of Technology


In order to promote the international exchange and communication, the Beijing Institute of Technology offers CSC (China Scholarship Council) scholarships to pursue Master or PhD.

 

Overview 

The CSC Scholarship covers costs of tuition of BIT, accommodation on or off campus, food costs, insurance, registration fee and teaching materials (the international airfare is not included). The scholarship will be offered to the students during their stay in Beijing for the period of the Master programs for 2 years or PhD programs for 4 years.

 

I. Application 

Step 1 – Applicants need to register on http://laihua.csc.edu.cn, the Agent No. of BIT is 10007. Fill out all required areas and submit it online.

Step 2 – Prepare all paper application documents and send the scanned copy to the admission officer by email master_phd@bit.edu.cn

Step 3- Send the original copy to the Office of International Students of BIT after receiving the notice from the admission officer. All required application materials shall be sent to BIT by April 10, 2015 for registration in September.

 

II. Nomination Letter 

A nomination letter shall be sent to BIT by April 15, 2015 from the home university, in which the name list and their application serial number from http://laihua.csc.edu.cn shall be included.

 

III. Admission 

1. All applications will be answered by the Office of International Students by email in 24 hours upon the receipt of the online application or email enquiry.

2. All applications will be reviewed by BIT first, qualified application will be sent to the CSC for the final review. The final decision will be announced by CSC in June each year.

3. BIT will send the results to the applicants by email in 5 working days upon the receipt of the CSC’s final decision.

4. BIT will send the admission letter and visa documents to the applicants by mail in two weeks after the email notice.

Summer School in Thailand ‘Entrepreneurship in Asia’


On behalf of Bangkok University School of Entrepreneurship and Management, and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor GEM Thailand, students are invited to join our 21-day Summer University 2015 in Thailand  ‘Entrepreneurship in Asia’ from 9 to 29 August 2015, which focuses on Entrepreneurial Thinking & Acting and Cross-cultural Communication.

Within this academic graduate summer program, students will begin and end their course in Bangkok, but will also attend events on Ko Samet Island, in Pattaya and Jomtien, Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai.

The study program covers 45 contact hours plus a 3 hours final examination. The three modules are

  • Cross-cultural Communication,
  • Creating Entrepreneurial Mindsets, and
  • Meet the Entrepreneur in Thought and Action in 6 company visits.

Each module is awarded 1 graduate Bangkok University credit, which may translate into 2 ECTS credits due to the work load as calculated according to the EU ECTS User Guideline. Credits,  grades and workload will be testified in a Transcript of Records. Working language is English for all classes; knowledge of the Thai language is not required.

For students who apply before 31 March 2015, the participation fee is €1.650, after that date it is €1.950.

Included in the fee are all accommodation, most meals, and in-country travel during the program. A group discount of 5 percent is offered to groups of 5 and more students.

Participants should be at least 20 years of age and at least 2 years at the university. This Summer University is open to students from all fields of study.
