The Department of Civilizations and Knowledge of the University of Pisa in collaboration with the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine arts and Landscape of Abruzzo and with the support of other important centers and universities (the Lab of experimental archeology of the University of Pisa, University of Foggia, ICCOM-CNR UOS of Pisa, MUSE-CelanoPaludi Museum) is conducting a research project aimed at studying the ancient populations of the Fucino area in Abruzzo, a central Italy region.

Since the summer of 2014, the University of Pisa has offered students this opportunity to participate in research through a special 4-week program of lectures, laboratory experiences and field activities.

The School of Archaeology in Abruzzo enables students to increase awareness and competencies about archaeological and methodological issues through a new diachronic (multi-period) approach.

Participants will have the possibility to work on two different excavations and to practice different archaeological research methods. Thanks to this experience, students will gain a deeper knowledge of archaeology from the prehistoric to the roman period, as well as specialised skills in research, critical thinking, and data acquisition, to help support the context of professional and personal development.
