The Neolithic site of Colle Santo Stefano
Colle Santo Stefano is an open-air site, situated in the north-west corner of Fucino basin. Materials and radiocarbon dating allow to collocate the site in the Impressed Wear culture of Adriatic early Neolithic.
Radiometric datings carried out on samples of coal and caryopsis of Triticum show that the time span of the settlement ranged between 5800-5600 and 5700-5400 calibrated years B.C. The ceramic production clearly shows the connection with the world of the southern Italian early Neolithic (use of cardium, geometric schemes of decoration, presence of protomes). The lithic complex is formed by a well specialize production with debitage mainly laminar. Numerous are the tools with simple retouch and or with abrupt retouched.
The most ancient phase is represented by a cobble pavement of 90 sq.m. circa (Fig.2). During 2014 campaign we found two fire- structure (Fig.3,4).
